The American Bar Association recently published its Legal Technology Resource Center’s 2021 Legal Technology Survey Report. In particular, the report looked at a law firm’s need for such marketing tools as a website, blog, and social media channels. The results overwhelmingly show that today’s attorney must increasingly look to the web to effectively reach new clients and build his/her business. The following reveals some major insights from the report and presents key takeaways.
Websites
According to the report:
“A website can be a powerful way to communicate a law firm’s message and information about the services it provides to the community, to potential clients, and to referral sources.”
Since 2018, the number of firms surveyed who have indicated that they have a website has climbed from 77% to 94% in 2021. Further, 70% of the law firms surveyed say that a lawyer creates the content for their sites.
Key takeaways:
- Don’t be part of the 6%
- If you are part of the 94%, is your firm’s site modern, optimized, updated, and reflect your current goals?
- The website content from Defacto Digital is crafted by a licensed attorney with over 20 years of legal experience and 12+ years of legal marketing experience
Blogging
The report found that blogging is still an effective way to communicate legal concepts and develop new clientele and a strong network. But only 37% of respondents said their firm had a blog.
Key takeaways:
- A legal website that serves as a marketing tool must have a blog
- Blogging is an effective to way to help with SEO measures and provides clients and potential clients with information of value
- Defacto Digital can provide monthly blogs for you at a small monthly fee and link the posts to your social media account
Marketing Confidence
Respondents to the report say they are not confident in their firms’ marketing efforts than in previous years. On a scale of 1-5, respondents indicated their level of confidence in their firms’ marketing effectiveness at only a 3. The largest law firms have the highest confidence level, at 3.4, while solos have the lowest at 2.7.
Further, firms unfortunately don’t appear to be paying much attention to analytics data available to evaluate the effectiveness of their online marketing efforts. Only 14% of respondents indicated that their firm works with an outside agency and gets regular reports on web analytics.
